I’m on a trip to the Boston area this week, and a good number of streaks towards my goals are in jeopardy. Why? Every habit and trigger is out of place. Every decision is a specific act of willpower. (Willpower also being harder to muster, since one is tired from travelling.) I’ve kept up the meditation, and haven’t had any alcohol. I have missed two days in a row of posting something here.
That keeping up habits while travelling is hard is not news. But it specifically validates one notion from Atomic Habits: we fall to the level of our systems, not rise to the level of our goals.
